UMLMWS PRESS RELEASE
Dean R. Francis, Consulting Forester and Co-Owner of Upper Michigan Land Management & Wildlife Services, Inc. was awarded the 1997 YOUNG FORESTER OF THE YEAR by the Michigan Society of American Foresters (MSAF).
The MSAF Young Forester of the Year recognizes outstanding leadership by a forestry professional younger than 40 years of age in the development and promotion of an individual program or project or for a sustained leadership role benefiting the practice of forestry and the Society of American Foresters.
Mr. Francis attended Bay De Noc Community College where he received an Associate of Science Degree in 1985. From 1985 to 1988, Dean attended Michigan State University where he graduated in March of 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forestry. From 1988-1991, Dean worked as a wholesale nursery manager in Lower Michigan. From 1991 to 1993, Dean held the position of Oceana/Newaygo Soil Conservation District Forester. In 1993, Dean moved back to Escanaba with his wife, Kim, to pursue a career in consulting forestry. Dean and Kim currently have two rambunctious children, a son Chad and daughter Rylie.
